OPERA – How can we drive the dialogue around a key social issue?
To launch Opera’s ‘State of the Mobile Web Africa’ report to partners and media in South Africa. Opera was keen to host an interactive launch event in Johannesburg and share content with other African markets relating to trends over the past decade, future mobile internet usage predictions and general consumer browsing behaviour.
We created an event format, as well as partnerships that could deliver additional value to the discussion. With the #DataMustFall campaign dominating headlines during this period, we facilitated a keynote address by Tbo Touch – the radio personality who pioneered the #DataMustFall movement – at the event. We facilitated all activities surrounding the event from invitations to preparation of content (messaging, Q&As, briefing documents, photography, videography), to venue and third party supplier arrangements.
The report launch gained traction across more than 50 platforms, in key markets, with broadcast interviews conducted in South Africa. We captured video footage, also used by national broadcasters to develop a story for a business news bulletin. The collaboration with Tbo Touch was very effective, not just in expanding dialogue across South Africa but also other African markets, where data costs are comparatively high and Opera’s data compression technology is enabling significant savings.
