About us 

The Instinctif Partners Public Policy team advises clients on how UK politics might affect their business and operations, both nationally and locally; and to help clients successfully engage with UK political and media stakeholders to achieve their goals.



The Role

You will be working across a range of accounts and supporting Public Policy’s new business efforts. Specific responsibilities will include monitoring, drafting briefings and biographies, researching issues and policy sectors, advising clients on their public affairs, stakeholder engagement and media programmes as well as assisting the wider team in their day to day work.



Role and responsibilities 

The role will entail:

  • Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of several accounts including administration, client handling and meeting deadlines
  • Channel agnostic client political and media /newspaper monitoring including rotational chairing of the monitoring group
  • Support new business initiatives including research, as a sector team rapporteur and networking
  • Undertaking research and analysis on a range of national and local public policy issues
  • Playing a role in developing strategies and tactics to allow clients to clearly and successfully articulate their voice whether that is with national or local stakeholders or the media
  • Drafting materials such as policy statements, issue briefings, and consultation responses in a succinct but compelling way
  • Drafting press releases, statements and op-eds for the media on matters of political and public policy interest
  • Engaging with journalists on a regular basis including pitching ideas, stories and perspectives
  • Devising, organising and attending stakeholder engagement events whether with local communities or supporting national political engagement
  • Attending stakeholder meetings with clients including with politicians, media or community organisations
  • Conducting public consultation including community outreach and engagement


Key skills, knowledge and personal competencies 

  • Awareness of and adherence to the PRCA Lobbying Code of Practice once in post
  • Knowledge and understanding of the political and legislative processes in Westminster and Whitehall
  • A good understanding of the UK public policy, media and regulatory landscape at a national and local level
  • An appreciation of different influencers and perspectives in the media
  • An ability to apply this understanding of the political and media environment to how this could affect the operations and reputations of organisations and companies
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement or campaigning within communities
  • Experience of engaging with journalists including drafting press releases or comment for media outlets at a local, national or trade publication level
  • Understanding of working in a business environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and of working as part of a team
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexibly and demonstrate reliability
  • Proactive, showing initiative and takes responsibility for their own actions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including a confident phone manner
