The Queen’s Speech 2017

Created by Thomas Bradley, Public Policy UK

Theresa May’s first (and possibly last!) Queen’s Speech was perhaps not in the circumstances she had envisaged when she went to the country earlier this month.

Given that the Conservatives are presenting this Queen’s Speech as a minority Government, and with the support of the DUP likely but still not certain, we could have expected to see a watering down of May’s policy pledges and more controversial policies removed altogether.

Our Public Policy team have prepared an ‘at-a-glance’ overview of what was covered in today’s Queen’s Speech, looking at what legislation we can expect to be introduced over the coming months.

But the Queen’s Speech is only half the story. Much Government work passes as non-legislative measures or secondary legislation, which is subject to less scrutiny. Here too, Instinctif Partners has sought to set out what in the Conservative manifesto will be taken forward, and what will ultimately be ditched.

We have set out what we think will happen to the Conservative manifesto’s key pledges via the medium of a handy traffic light system!
