Contact

With the focus on nationalisation of key utilities at this General Election, we looked at how listed UK companies with major UK utilities within their portfolio have performed vs their European counterparts and the main FTSE index. The “average chosen companies” is comprised of the following: BT Group PLC, National Express, First Group, Go-Ahead, Stagecoach, Royal Mail, Severn Trent Water, United Utilities, Pennon Group (South West Water), Centrica (British Gas), SSE, E.ON, Iberdrola (Scottish Power), EDF. 2016 was the first full year that Jeremy Corbyn led the Labour Party. Of course political events are only one facet behind a company’s financial performance, but it is a strong indication of how the political situation is having a real impact on market.
